You can’t escape pain.
Turn the lights off
Breathe in, breathe out deeply
It’s still waiting at the end of the hour.
Long flights
Sunlight, a dive in the blue ocean
Swim swim, besides the sharks
It’s a vacation.
Different nights with different guys
Lying close but far apart
Unsure of your worth but he says you’re pretty
Hot showers, still pain lingers
Those long embraces, and kisses that only fulfill him
I just want you to know
Pain shouldn’t be escaped
Wear them on
Your different scars, till it makes your skin thick
Bad things are normal things
Bad days are normal days
And 20s is a scary place to be
Every smile flashed you way isn’t friendship, even those butterflies don’t mean love
True strength should come from within you, break the hard rock and let the living water flow
Just across the horizon is a man who would love the hell of you.
Morning dates
Long walks
Breakfast in bed
You’ll get it
Someone whose eyes will lit up at the thought of you
You’ll get it or you won’t
The 30s are worse still
Your older but not wiser
You’ve lost touch and the youngins are wiser
But don’t think you have to settle
You’re a queen and there’s a king
Who would love you with all his breath
And watch the sun rise out of your eyes
On a vacation
Diamonds bigger than your eyeballs
That’s the love you’ll have or maybe that the love you will desire
But you’re 40 and it’s all voices
The mirrors show the wrinkles clearly
You’re open, it’s unfair
Every knock sounds like its love and every goodbye stills your smile until it’s tighter than the rock that lies where you heart ought to be.
There’s your cat billy and your best friend Jane
There’s wine and pay tv, there’s long conversation that end in tears
Fairy tales are real
When your knight comes riding, his amour so shiny
You’re no longer sad cos someone finally gets you
It’s like ice cream and pizzas or pasta and cheese the way he walks with your arms in his
You’re the spotlight, his centre. You’re glowing and this is loving
Still you may never get to taste it.
50s are the death years
You’re all alone and curtains drawn
Your dark heart has stopped dreaming
But when you’ve stopped looking that when you find true love
He’ll kiss all your wrinkles and clean every scar
He’ll stir you until you learn to laugh again
Suddenly you’re 10 and you don’t care
Caterpillars into butterflies, light moths and summer flights
Suddenly you’ve learnt to fly again and it always lands in love.
*sheds hot tears.
